Northanger Abbey reviews
Northanger Abbey: The Age review
Submitted by kls010 on Fri, 13/06/2008 - 09:51.
The Age suggestively reviewed Northanger Abbey ahead of it's broadcast in Australia this Sunday, and appeared to like it.
"Lush with straining bosoms, knowing looks and segments bringing Morland's wild dreams and fantasies to life, Northanger Abbey is well cast. Felicity Jones catches Morland's mix of youthful naivety, heart-whole feelings and mindful beliefs perfectly and J.J. Feild, as the dishy but sensible Tilney, grows in appeal as this feature-length drama builds to a climax."

Northanger Abbey: Masterpiece Theatre cuts
Submitted by kls010 on Mon, 21/01/2008 - 19:13.
There has been a lot of positive response to last night's broadcast of NA, despite having a number of scenes cut from it. These include a few lovely scenes of JJ as Henry Tilney; picking apples, leaning while waiting for Catherine to come to dinner and two of Catherine's dream sequences .
Edited post: This website reviews the Region 1 DVD. The cuts mentioned above remain sadly. Screencaps of the UK version are in the galleries!

Northanger Abbey : more US previews
Submitted by kls010 on Sun, 20/01/2008 - 01:40.
A couple more previews have appeared. Heather Lawrence from Solitary Elegance posted her (balanced) review on PBS.org blog. The Twinklers especially liked this part;
"And a note to future Masterpiece productions: please, please keep casting JJ Feild (Henry Tilney), because he’s absolutely adorable. His charm is an important part of this film’s appeal."

Northanger Abbey : US previews
Submitted by kls010 on Sat, 19/01/2008 - 14:45.
A few reviews have appeared in advance of tomorrow night's broadcast of NA in the US.
The Boston Globe thought it needed to be longer..."but still, it's an easy-to-watch introduction to one of Austen's lesser-known novels."

Northanger Abbey : TV Scoop best of 2007
Submitted by kls010 on Wed, 26/12/2007 - 15:24.
TV Scoop posted their favourite UK TV moments of 2007 and loved NA.
"NORTHANGER ABBEY (ITV1): ITV gets something right That might be a rather harsh headline but, as they say, true. ITV had a poor year all told, punctured by the odd costume drama which they presumably thought would automatically turn it into a classy channel. Not all of them hit the mark, but Northanger Abbey was wonderful. The writing was witty and light-hearted, and the leads thoroughly charming. JJ Feild was a brilliant Tilney, and I can't wait to see him reprise his role of Fred Garland in The Shadow Of The North, with Billie Piper (BBC One, Sun 30 Dec, 8.55pm)."

Northanger Abbey: TV Scoop top 50
Submitted by kls010 on Thu, 06/12/2007 - 16:13.
TV Scoop lists Northanger Abbey as number 25 in its top 50 TV programmes of the year.
25. Northanger Abbey (ITV1) Here's another of those ITV dramas that have deservedly found their way into our Top 50 of 2007. When ITV was promoting its Jane Austen season, it concentrated on Mansfield Park and Persuasion as they featured the star turns: Billie Piper and Rupert Penry-Jones respectively. But without doubt the best of the three programmes was in fact Northanger Abbey. While the other two were rather down-beat, Northanger Abbey was fun to look at, featured a great script from - who else - Andrew Davies, and had two wonderfully engaging and warm actors, Felicity Jones and JJ Feild, in the lead roles.
